SEPTEMBER 14th INCORPORATION MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Local city officials answer questions at August incorporation meeting
Approximately 100 residents of Woodcreek North attended the second community meeting on incorporation at the VFW Hall in early August. The study committee had invited Sally Caldwell, Mayor Pro Tem of Woodcreek, Don Ferguson, Wimberley City Administrator and former Wimberley Mayor Steve Klepfer to speak to the meeting and to answer questions regarding how incorporation has worked for their cities.
Attendees were invited to submit their questions regarding incorporation and what it could mean should the area become a municipality. It was pointed out during the meeting that the Woodcreek Property Owners Asso-ciation’s powers and responsibilities are limited to maintenance matters, including roads, mowing, and signage. As a municipality, ordinances could enforce major decisions, for instance zoning, building codes, and other decisions that might be needed regarding community welfare.
Two of the major questions posed at the meeting were about road maintenance and costs for and taxation by the proposed city. The chairman of the incorporation research committee explained that road maintenance should remain the responsibility of the Association since it is already in place and experienced. As to the question of the cost of running the city, it was noted that members of any governing body would be volunteers and that city costs would be minimal since fire, emergency services and library services are already present and paid for by property taxes we pay each year.
The next community meeting will be devoted to matters of developing a budget. Also, suggestions for a new name for the area will be requested.
Valley Spring Road closed for repairs, expected to reopen in November
Valley Spring Road, the main entrance off FM 2325 to Woodcreek North, was temporarily closed to through traffic on August 25.
Wimberley Springs Partners, a local real estate investment company, is funding a $2 million reconstruction of the front entrance to the development. The project will include the construction of a right-hand turn lane from FM 2325 onto Valley Spring Road and a complete reconstruction of the first 3,000 feet of Valley Springs. An attractive landscaped entrance and underground relocation of utilities along the highway are also a part of the project.
In addition to the improvements to FM 2325 and Valley Springs, the project includes the reconstruction of War Bonnet and Peace Pipe, two streets in the southernmost section of the development, which was re-platted last year as Wimberley Springs, Section I. Besides the road re-construction, the project includes a pond for storm water runoff and water quality protection, as well as major improvements to Aqua Texas’ water and wastewater infrastructure in the area.
Wimberley Springs closed the southern portion of Valley Springs Road (at the intersection with Flaming Cliff) for approximately 10 weeks to perform the reconstruction. Residents who live north of that intersection are currently entering the subdivision from the Jacobs Well Road entrances Valley Springs Road is expected to reopen in November.
